Used Harmony H417 Monterey Sunburst A-Style Archtop Mandolin
Product Details
This vintage Harmony H417 Monterey A-Style Archtop Mandolin is in good condition for its age, likely dating from the late 1950s to early 1960s. It has some cosmetic and structural quirks typical of mid-century Harmony craftsmanship, including off-kilter binding work, built-up glue in some seams, and what appears to be previous work or separation near the neck joint and tailblock. Despite the rustic build and minor seam separation near the tailpiece, it remains playable with a comfortable feel and decent action. A nice example of a fully acoustic, American-made mandolin, and a great entry into vintage mandolin tone. - Body Style: A-style archtop mandolin - Top Wood: Pressed solid spruce - Back & Sides: Solid maple, arched back - Bracing: Parallel tone bars - Neck: Maple with internal dowel reinforcement (no truss rod) - Fingerboard: Rosewood or ebonized maple with dot inlays - Scale Length: Approximately 13 ⅞″ - Nut Width: Approximately 1 ⅛″ - Bridge: Rosewood floating adjustable bridge - Tailpiece: Nickel “cloud” or decorative trapeze - Binding: Single-ply cream top binding - Finish: Gloss two-tone sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer - Pickguard: Red tortoiseshell celluloid - Tuners: 4-on-a-plate open-gear with white plastic buttons - Headstock Logo: White “Monterey” script with gold vertical “Harmony” text - Electronics: None – acoustic only - Country of Manufacture: USA (Chicago, IL) - Weight: 1.7 lbs - Cosmetic Condition: Good – shows typical vintage wear, glue buildup around binding, and a minor seam separation near the tailblock.
