The Keeley Compressor Plus Germanium is the 25th anniversary update to one of the best-selling guitar compressors ever made, and the Compurressor Plus Germeownium is our version of it. Same circuit, same feel, now dressed in a Sour Apple green enclosure with original artwork by Avery Worrall: an upside-down kitty in a cozy blue outfit, pink toe beans out, staring up at you from your pedalboard. Even the Blend knob got the treatment, running from Clean to Squish. Available only at B's Music Shop.
Under the art, this is the full Compressor Plus Germanium. Keeley uses a germanium transistor as a buffer and tone-shaping stage, not as an amplifier, so it never drifts into fuzz or overdrive territory. Instead, the germanium rounds off harsh high end, lets notes sustain and bloom more naturally, and gives you a smoother, more touch-sensitive response, all without the extra noise or lost headroom that germanium circuits usually bring along. Brian found it has a slightly different feel than the classic K Comp, with a little less squash on the pick attack and more of the note coming through before the sustain takes over.
The controls are the four knobs players already know. Level sets your output for unity or a boost. Tone brightens or darkens the compressed signal. Blend mixes your dry signal with the compressed one. Comp sets the compression amount and sustain. A Single Coil/Humbucker voicing switch adjusts the recovery speed to suit your pickups, and you can switch between true bypass and Keeley's super-silent buffered bypass by holding the footswitch for two seconds.
We've carried Keeley's Cat Comp for years, and when Keeley built a better compressor for their 25th, we had to put a cat on that one too. If you're ready to make your guitar a little more squished, this is the one.
